Subject: dual channel ram?OS: xp homeCPU/Ram: p4 |
Comment: ok. I have a dell dimension 4600. Right now i have two sticks of 128 mb ram. I wish to add 512 mb or ram. Should i get one stick of 512 or 2x256? does it make any difference? I rather get 1x512 because the comp only has 4 slots for ram. But i heard of this dual channel thing i didnt know if it applies in this situation or what it is. Thanks ________________________ Pentium 4 2.66 Ghz 533 Mhz Front-Side Bus 256 Mb PC2700 RAM 64 Mb Nvidia Geforce MX 440 w/ AGP 8x SoundMax Integrated Audio 40 Gb Hard Drive

Reply: (edit)I'd say 1 stick of 512mb. If its the same speed it'll run in dual channel still right? Radeon 9800 Pro 128Mb AMD Barton 2800 Asus A7N8X E-Deluxe 512 DDRAM PC2700

Reply: (edit)Acutally, you need to fill all of the corresponding slots for dual channel mode. So if one slot is occupied in channel 1 then only 1, no more no less, must be occupied in channel 2. Same goes with occuping 2 slots. However, some motherboards will utilize one slot in a channel for dual channel mode even with 4 slots. This also depends on whether you have dual channel mode.
