What is Dual Channel Ram? How much faster is it than regular ram? How do i know if i am running dual channel?

Its the same speed, but you have to buy 2 IDENTICAL pieces at a time, to find out you gotat check with your manufacturer methinks...

Dual channel mode is built into the motherboard chipset...basically, it takes two identical sticks or RAM & treats then as a combined unit, effectively doubling the bandwidth. For example, if you have two sticks of 256mb PC2700 running in dual channel mode, they will be treated as 512mb PC5400.

It's really only useful on P4 systems running 533 or 800FSB, or Athlon64 systems. Even then, the performance difference is only 5-20% at best, & only under specific circumstances running memory intensive apps. Under normal conditions, you'll see 0-5% improvement.

Dual channel is of no benefit for systems running 400FSB or lower.
