i was going to play DUke Nukem 3D on my laptop on which i intsalled Windows 2000 Professional because XP wouldnt work and 98SE sucks for networking (this laptop is connected through 802.11b+g to my home LAN). the specs are:
233mhz Pentium
112mb RAM
6gb hard drive
2mb video memorythe game Duke Nukem 3D starts and then stops and exits again. i am assuming incompatibility with Windows 2000 Pro, and i have already tried the latest version of DOSBox, it wont start for some reason. how can i play this and other DOS games in Windows 2000 Pro without conflicts and errors. the laptop has no floppy or i would simply boot in with an MS-DOS boot disk.
PLEASE ADVISE!!
THANX!!

So... creating a bootable DOS CD never occurred to you? Or is there no CD drive as well?

i didnt know there was a way to do a bootable DOS CD...
thanx though.
but is there any way to play DOS games from Windows 2K Pro?????

Look for a program called VDMSound. It is a soundcard and 'other legacy hardware' emulator for DOS games on XP/2000. It may do the trick.

Are you josh-ing? Without a floppy drive, ya hafta boot from *something* for troubleshooting or installing a different OS
Only helpful if your HDD is FAT32 though - as well, modern soundcards may not be compatible with games from that era (if even present)
Not exactly the best specs for 2K either, but, whatever

well i know that 98SE and stuff boot off the CD-ROM and some of the older OSes boot track booted to MS-DOS but i thought those were all based on such and such version of windows, all i mean is i didnt know there were stand alone ones.

Win9x & ME are dependant upon a DOS boot - regardless, a CD is just another boot device, anything that can be run from a floppy can likewise be run from a CD (and then some)
