Before I rant:
AMD Athlon 2800+ Barton CPU
Abit NF7-S MB
2x 512mb Corasir XMS 2700 ram
Audigy 2 SC
New ATI 9800 Pro VC

This setup plays great with Unreal 04, HL2, Farcry, Halo, etc., etc.

Doom3 is virtually unplayable and I'm perplexed!?@#
After about 20 to 30 minutes of play. PC locks up and needs reboot. It appears to be the 9800 pro as I can find nothing else. All Doom3 settings were set to lowest and advanced setting were all off. I have plenty of case fans and even took the side panel off.....no improvement?!

Am I missing something here or do I really need to shell it out for an ATI X850 XT??

Well.....
I found the problem and yes, I was missing something.
I set the res thru the display control panel to 800x600 to match what Doom3 set for the game and it's all good with advanced settings enabled. MUCH better gameplay now. :)
