In a day and age when most people rate how good a game is by its grahics, it's nice to see a game that relies on GAMEPLAY to keep you coming back for more. Doom 3 is such a game.

The game does have nice visuals, amazing light effects, and lots of blood, but its graphical prowess ends there. It's mostly too dark (even with in-game brightness all the way up, I still had to raise my monitor's brightness), the game is entirely indoors, and the plot is much too similar to Half Life (super-duper secret organization working with dangerous high tech stuff, something goes horribly wrong, BOOM everyone you know becomes a zombie, and you have to shoot your way out of the mess).

But remember that thing most gamers forgot about called GAMEPLAY. The game has a really scary atmosphere, something I haven't experienced maybe since the original Alone in the Dark. I literally screamed when I saw the first zombie!! (more because of the situation rather than the zombie himself).

Unlike FarCry and America's Army, Doom 3 does not try to be realistic, which is a big plus to me. For instance, you don't need to aim totally precisely to kill a zobie. Weapons don't have scopes. And there's plenty of ammo to be found too.

You also lug around a PDA, which mainly works as a keychain with some other info. Your PDA is your security clearance to open certain doors. As you pick up your dead colleagues' PDAs, you'll be able to open more doors, listen to their messages, and read their e-mail (adds a bit of depth to the game).

You must complete some "objectives" which mainly consist of getting from one place to another (like Doyle in FarCry or Cortana in Halo telling you where to go next).

The game features a variety of weapons, from old favorites like the BFG 9000, to the weird Soul Collector (??). While most weapons are very effective, they don't quite have the visual punch you'd expect from a Doom game.

Another good point is that the game engine scales very well. My GeForce 5200 handles it well on High setting @ 800x600.

This is a great game with nice graphics. Highly recommended. Just don't go into it thinking it's out to beat FarCry's graphics, or become the next Half Life. On the conrary, this is the best mindless shoot-anything-that-moves FPS since Painkiller.

Gameplay: 10/10 - fun, fun, fun, fun. Non-stop mindless zombie blasting. FPSs don't get any better than this.

Graphics: 9/10 - not FarCry caliber, but nice lighting/shadow effects.

Sound: 9/10 - cool metal tune intro. The in-game subtle music fits the game nicely. Good sound effects.

dude what you talking about? the graphics are WAY better then farcry but when it comes to gameplay (mindless blasting). you also should've mentioned that "zombies" aren't the only things the player would encounter in terms of enemies although I do agree they are scary.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Some peoms rhyme
This one doesn't

ARE U NUTS!? OUT OF YOUR MIND!? POSSESSED!? INSANE!?

Ok if that's your opinion I can respect that, however...
I think Far Cry has some visual flaws. Personally, I think the bump mapping is kinda lack-luster in many cept for some certain areas. And consistancy in rendering is ackward. The "Cry-tek" eninge is suppose to have this huge rendering distance, but many of the "far away" visuals are a bit weak. Not what I expected from this engine that was suppose to "master" large scale scenery rendering. Make no mistake, Far Cry has good graphics but Doom 3 lauphs at ANYTHING out there. I can give Far Cry the shadow rendering though. It's not bad.

Oh and does anyone else feel like Far Cry is a sniper's game? Just a thought. The AI up close just feels...wierd.

Hmmm. By well you mean 10 FPS?

Some people are like Slinkies?, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...
