This is the thing...i have an operative sistem for WnXP home but it sais its only for new HP or compaq computers...and, I dont know, but probably it wont work...
Anyways I leaned towards linux and what i am here to ask you is if Linux has many limitations concerning Games? Like Performance issues or even not playing certan games...
winXP and Vista are quite expensive on the other hand Linux is free...what do you think?
What games do you expect to run? Have you checked to see how many games are compatible with Linux? I'm sure you have some games laying around, check the side of the boxes for system requirements.
If you go with Linux; the game titles available to you are going to be severely limited. JSYK, there's a reason you don't see PC users .... including gamers flocking in droves to Linux, despite the potential zero price tag.
You shouldn't even have to ask. Are you building an HP or Compaq?
FYI, it's not illegal to get a burned copy of XP from a friend or relative, as long as you're not given the COA & product key. You're on your own from there, but you'd be surprised what you can find by googling. Let your conscience be your guide ;-)
I actually have a copy of the one I linked to in response #5 & it also has a disclaimer .... to be used with a new Gateway PC, but it works just like a retail copy does on any PC & in fact is an identical image to a retail XP disc.
Moreover, the disc doesn't deploy a pre-activated OEM branded image on installation - you still have to have a valid COA in order to be able to legally activate any installaton made with the aid of the OEM OS disc ;-)
