Does DX9 work with GF4 TI4200?

I have MSI Geforce 4 ti4200. read this is incompatible with dx9. Did put dx9 on pc couple of mnths ago .Was getting slow performance (not sure this was dx9) so formatted hd re-loaded xp and 8.1 all ok. Now DX9 is back - not sure how, but dxdiag says it is there. Don't want to go thru re-load again - do Ineed to? All agmes work now (Splinter cell MOHAA etc) however these are dx8 games and I get the feeling that the problems will come with dx9 games (HL2?)
By the way when I had DX9 first time tried benchmark 2003 and the score was crap - would that be dx9? - assume their tests utilise dx9 capability.
Is it better to a)chuck the 4200 b) stay as I am cos there will be no problems c)switch back to 8.1?

hi, no the ti4200 card isnt compatible with DX9 only the geforce FX series and ATI Radeon 9800 cards are. Although you can install DX9 on any machine with any type of card it shouldnt effect your perfomance, it merly upgrades the DX drivers. As for running HL2 etc DX9 designed games, you may or may not have problem, when i had a 128mb card that was only DX 8.1 compatible it wouldnt run the game " enter the matrix" purely due to my gfx card not suporting dx9, weather this is the case with hl2 remains to be seen, but dont be surprised if its not.
