Disabling onboard graphics

Hi i currently have a ak79g-1394 motherboard from aopen it does not say how to disable the onboard graphics because i want to install a XFX GeForce FX 5900XT AGP Graphics Card.I currently have a geforce4 mx 32mb integrated gpu i have 512mb of ram,Amd athlon xp 2.4ghz processor any help would be appreciated thankyou.

There should be a setting in the BIOS for it. I don't know much about your motherboard but the usual procedure is to 'press Delete to enter setup' when it asks for it at bootup. Mine brings up a blue menu screen and from there you can go through the folders until you find onboard graphics.. (Folder probably called peripheral devices or something like it) Then just change it to disabled then click 'save and exit' in the main menu. I'd guess that when the machine reboots you won't have anything up on the screen if you're connected to the onboard GPU, so shut down and put the AGP card in..

You'll need to uninstall the drivers for your onboard graphics in windows before you start all that lot. Go to Add/remove devices in control pannel and select the onboard graphics card and click remove, then do the above.
