Just bought my son a new computer but graphics aren't great and they are integrated on the motherboard. Called COmpaq and they said I could buy a new card to put in one of the PSI slot and then just disable the one on the motherboard by changing the settings. Has anyone done this? Don't want to keep this computer if its not possible to update it with a better video card. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

One: They prob. were reffereing to PCI not PSI
Two: If you have AGP capabilities, go with those type of vid cards
Three: Just put the vid card into the slot and then computer will pick it up, that way you do not have to mess with any settings.
Disabling is done out of a precautionary emphasis

You are right - it is a PCI slot (i mistyped it). My son is only 11 and is not into extreme gaming yet. Can I get a video card that will work with a PCI slot? By the time he is playing better games i will probably just buy him a new computer. Are there many cards that will fit a PCI slot? Thanks for everyone's help!

first of all, you should check the system's user manual if an "AGP" slot is available. if not, then a nvidia fx5200(PCI) is the best you can get which most people would not recommend for gaming.
back to your question, there should be an option in the system bios which allow you to disable on-board video. how to get into bios? not sure for compaq, you can try f1, f2, f10...? depends on your system, on boot screen, some will prompt you to press a certain key to enter bios.
alternatively, when you're in windows, go to start >control panel >system, look for the on-board graphic, select and right-click to bring out a drop-down menu and select "properties". there, you can disable it.
