I have been playing Halo for about 2 weeks now with a few hiccups here & there, but now the game is unplayable. All of the sudden, I'm getting DirectX issues. When I try to start Halo, I get an error message saying that it couldn't initialize Direct Draw & that I should run dxdiag.exe. When I run it & test the Direct Draw, the test runs fine.
When I test Direct 3D, I get the following 3 errors:
Test failed at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x887602eb (error
code), which happens while attempting DirectX 7 testTest failed at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Out
of memory), which happens while attempting DirectX 8 testTest failed at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8007000e (Out
of memory), which happens while attempting DirectX 9 testPreviously, these tests ran just fine, although I wouldn't see a difference between the 8 & 9 because I only have a DirectX 8 capable card. I went to Microsoft's site & like usual, it wasn't any help. I tried reinstalling both the game & DirectX 9.0b & I still get the same error.
My system specs are as follows:
P4 2.6C on an Asus P4P800 Deluxe mobo with most recent BIOS, Sound, & chipset drivers installed. GeForce 4 Ti 4400 running with the 45.23 drivers (I know the newest ones are 52.17, but I figured that the last of the Detonators would probably work better for my card seeing that the new forceware drivers are really meant for the FX series cards). I'm even forcing Halo to use PS 1.4.
Any thoughts??

Try installing DX8.1 or so since your video card doesn't support anything greater than that.
You'll need a 3rd party utility/tool to remove all versions, DX terminator or something or DX exterminator..try majorgeeks.com for such a utility
Try the forceware, I think you have the nForce chipset on the motherboard, and the Forcewares are supposed to optimize the nvidia card line with the nforce chipset..enhance something or another, i can't remember..i guess like 'matched memory pairs' or like twins what-nots

Actually, the nforce chipset is only for the AMD platform (currently). I have the Intel 865PE chipset. In regards to the DirectX 8.1, although my card can't use the extra extensions offered by DX9, I have to have 9 installed for Halo to even run. It refuses to run if it doesn't see 9 installed. In the mean time, I'll try the new Forceware 52.16 drivers. All the nvidia drivers are backwards compatible anyway, I just figured it was better to use the latest drivers that were designed for my card's architecture. I suppose I can also try removing DX9 with the program you mentioned & then try reinstalling it.

(a).Download Drivers for your video card and motherboard(agp drivers, bios)
(b).Check for any problems in DXDIAG(Start > Run > DXDIAG). If you have any game problems, reinstall Direct X either by using a tool or reformatting(low-end option).
(c).Run ScanDisk/Virus Scanner. Fix any errors/viruses if you have any.Have you tried switching video cards?
