you do not need to go back to an earlier version of directX - all video cards are compatible with directx9, just that only the very newest ones make full use of directx 9s new features. anyway, there is no way to uninstall directx9, you would have to reformat, which is pointless.

lol. compatible? any video card can support direct x 9, just like what will says. sometimes you might see those popular video cards on the market saying that it supports direct x 9. what they really mean is that the video card is built for that direct x version, making it the better than any card that supports lower versions than direct x 9. In another words, if you play a Direct X 9 game with Geforce 4 MX 440(direct x 8 card), it'll be slower than a card thats actually built for direct x 9.

Your card just won't be able to use the new DirectX 9 extensions that MS has added into this latest version because your hardware doesn't support it. You games will run, but they just won't have the extra little pretty things that are special to DirectX 9.

DX9 was very buggie...that's why there was 9.0, 9.0a, 9.0b...I'm not sure where it stands now. There have been a lot of posts from people who thought it was a good idea to download it (even though their video card didn't support it), & it wreaked havoc on their system.

You should be running DirectX 8.1. Dump 9.0 & replace it. Try using DirectX Buster to remove it:
