Comment:

sometimes when im playing a game, DirectSound just cuts out. for example, World of Warcraft. i can here the background music just fine, but certain sound effects just stop working, until i restart my computer.

when i run dxdiag after this happens in a game, the Test under the Sound tab doesnt work either, until the computer is restarted.

this happened around 2 weeks ago, and i formatted, which seemed to fix the problem, but it just started happening again. i havent made any changes to the system recently that could trigger this. after it started happening again, i re-downloaded DirectX 9.0c, but it didnt fix it.

any idea whats going on?

Dave

have you tried doing a sound card driver update from whoever makes your sound card?

Have you applied all the world of warcraft patches?
