Hello All!

I am having some issues with DirectX, specially Direct3D, and thought you might have some insight. When I attempt to run the
Test Direct3D, it states that its going to run the test, the screen flickers black for a second, and then back, where it states that I interrupted the test with a keypress (which I didn't). It does this on all tests (7/8/9).

This is apparently interfering with some games (specifically, Sierra's Emperor, Rise of Middle Kingdom). The games starts, runs the initial cinematics, but when it really goes to play, it immediately iconizes. Attempts to bring it up fail (screen flickers, musics plays, all for about a second, and then it iconizes again).

Originally, I had a ATI Radeon 9100 128M DDR AGP board in the computer (custom build computer, btw). However, I just got a brand new PNY Gforce FX 5200 128M AGP. I saw this issue with both boards.

Here is the current system configuration:
Asus A7N8X M/B
Award BIOS 6.00PG
AMD Athlon 2200+
1G DDR RAM
WinXP Pro v5.1 Build 2600
DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)

BTW, I was running DX 8.1 under the Radeon, as that's the best it supports, and I saw this same issue.

HELP!

Thanks in advance...

(a)download drivers for your video card, motherboard(agp drivers), and the latest Windows Updates.
(b)reinstall Direct X with a program called DXBUSTER and see if it helps
(c)run scandisk and check for viruses

good luck

have you tried a new keyboard? maybe you have a 'special' key that's electrically stuck or whatever

Hi Terrence:

justin_b31 hit it right on the nail when he mentioned the new keyboard. I was having the same problem with direct3d and frantically read any and all forums until I found justin's post. I have a keyboard, specifically a "ELEMENTStm" KB8801-R+ TurboJet. I downloaded the drivers for my keyboard sometime ago and was running the turbo capabilities of the keyboard.

Well, lo and behold, when I read justin_b31's post I tried disabling the keyboard software and attempted to run the direct3d test again and I finally ran a successful test. Maybe you are running into the same situation. I am going to post it in another forum where I saw your message as well in the hopes that it can help you. I really hope this helps!
