Specs: Windows Vista
I downloaded this game from Shockwave's website and it's been working fine for about a week - now suddenly the game will not launch from the desktop icon. Other games I downloaded from Shockwave are still working fine. I tried a virus scan (none found), tried uninstalling and re-installing the game (didn't work). Shockwave tech support can't tell me what the problem might be or how to fix it. I really want to play this game so if anyone knows what I can do to fix the problem I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

you need to determine if this is a problem with the game/installation, or if this is just a problem with the shortcut.

right click and view the properties of the shortcut. Navigate to the location the shortcut points to. Is the game application/executable there? You'll probably be looking somewhere like "C:\Program Files (x86)\Shockwave\gamename.exe." You could also check the Start Menu for game files.

If you try launching the game from Program Files and the Start Menu and it works, the shortcut is bad. If it doesn't work, you know it's the installation itself.

Does the website say what the requirements are? Does it support Vista?

Hi and thanks for your response. I checked the Properties of the desktop icon and under "Target" it showed exactly what you had typed with the .exe file.

Then I went to Start - Programs and tried to open the game from that spot but it wouldn't open there either.

Shockwave recommended I uninstall and re-install Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Shockwave Player and the game again....I uninstalled and re-installed all three and the game still won't open. The game is Vista compatible and my computer appears to meet all game requirements. What I don't understand is how the game worked just fine for about a week and then suddenly stopped working.

My virus scan didn't find anything, so I can't figure out what's causing the problem. If it was a problem with the installation, then surely re-installing it should have solved the problem.

Can you think of anything else I can try?

if you have another computer i would run the installer and see what the results are.

I have also had an issue in the past where one particular piece of software had an issue, despite numerous reinstalls. Everything else on the machine worked fine. turned out there were bad sectors on the Hard Drive, and the reinstallation process was writing the software files back to the same bad place on the hard drive.

So perhaps a Check Disk (chkdsk /f /x at a command line) would turn up bad sectors on your hard drive.

an hour or so of running Prime95 would also help to determine if your RAM is having any issues.

Have you checked the application and system event logs for any unusual warnings or errors?
