Comment: Dell spammed me a while ago and the "ultimate gaming experience" xps caught my eye. So, what the hell. After configuring it with a few odds and ends I found out I could own it for just $3,828.00. Jeez... Skip

Reply: (edit)I've really enjoyed my Dell XPS, an older 800mhz machine. The best aspect was being able to configure the individual components of the computer, skimping on some things to have better grade in other areas. Try to do that with an off-the-shelf HP/Compaq! Next time around I plan to build my own. I figure why pay Dell several hundred dollars to snap some pieces together... Not everyone's up to the task though, and I certainly wasn't either on my first computer. You know hardware companies charge a super-premium for the very latest components. You'll knock off a bunch from the $3828 if you go down one or two notches, and probably not notice a difference in performance. Happy Shopping? -Bob

Reply: (edit)I'm not going to buy it Bob. And, I have to admit some of the configuration is pretty nice...they can build a real pc afterall. This is a 120Gig raid 1, 2Gig memory, 9800Pro, camera, blah, blah machine with a gob of software. I'll build my next rig too as we can buy the meat and potatos of this rig for about 1500 bucks. It does get very difficult to match Dell prices when you attempt to include a monitor and software into their sale prices. I'd love to write a review on it if they'd just send me one. Skip

Reply: (edit)If that seems high to you, just compare that desktop with a laptop of similar specs and accessories! $5,000? Quote: "I'd love to write a review on it if they'd just send me one." They'd have to send me some new high-dollar software to try on it too, otherwise it would seem just like 800mhz! They -Bob

Reply: (edit)Just build the computer.. benifits.. ITS A LOT CHEAPER.. I personally saved like $400~600 at the time when compared to other companies such as dell with the same configuration.. get the parts faster.. (only took a few days), nothing in the bios blocked (a popular one.. such as changing the bus speeds), configure it exactly to your liking, etc.. btw I would rather go with a raid 0.. (for performance) and a 9800xt if possible.. Buying a pc from another company would be my last option because I can just build one to my exact liking.

Reply: (edit)I do not know if this is true or not but I also have heard that you cannot replace Dell's PSU & Case with normal ones you usually see in stores(Antec, Thermaltake). *for performance and a 9800xt if possible* hey, not everybody is rich ya know ;)

Reply: (edit)in some dells you can't change the PSU's, it has to do with different config where it comes to wiring of the main power connector, there are a few exemptions though like the 4300 and a couple of other series. my next purchase will be the 9800 pro and throwing a new bios in it and getting an xt

Reply: (edit)I got my desktop through a new company called Waveform PC. I got a complete system through them for $3100 or so. It included a 3.4ghz intel p4, 19 inch lcd NEC display, 2gb ddr400 ram, 200gb hard drive, and two dvd-rw/cdrw drives, and a 7.1 surround sound speaker system. The case isnt as great as alienware, but its a great system. I believe this is the link - http://www.waveformpc.com/Gaming.html...its the tsunami model.
