How much will you be paying for it?

-Crysis and CoD4 are more than "basic games."

-the P4 was one of the worst processors to roll out of a company as talented as Intel. Definitely not a good Crysis CPU. A dual-core CPU is highly recommended--hyper-threading doesn't count.

-the radeon xpress 1100 will need to be upgraded.

-if he's asking for more than $150, then spending the money on a cheap Pentium E or Athlon X2 board+CPU package would be a better idea.

I hope you're not paying much for it.

Tally everything up...a used P4 system "from a guy", then add to it a video card, HDD & power supply to make it game-worthy. Is it still an attractive deal?

decent video card - $150+/-
decent power suppy - $100+/-
500GB HDD - $90+/-

So you're looking at over $300 to make it game worthy, but that doesn't include upgrading the P4 to a dual core.

EDIT: I just reread what you wrote above & see that you also mentioned a board? You'd be upgrading just about everything in the PC...board, CPU, video card, HDD, power supply & most likely RAM as well. Your "friend" is definitely getting the better part of this trade.

I think it is an extremely bad deal for you.
