Diablo 2 is choppy for me and I don't know why. I've posted this a few times now but still no ones advice has seemed to work. I got a 1.7 ghz celeron, 768 ddr ram, 256mb GeForce FX 5700Le(which I hear sucks, but why would they suck for d2? Requirements are 4 mb) No I dont have a 56 k connection, I have a high speed cable connection. Even half life 2 in some maps runs smooth, but diablo 2 remains choppy whenever I turn on the map or whenever theres 10 more monsters on the screen. All my drivers are updated, I have no viruses, no spyware... clean cache. I have it running in 800x600(which is the highest it will go) and quality set to high(if I set low, it doesnt make a difference). I just don't get it, why is my computer making diablo 2 choppy? I bet no one knows, but if anybody out there might have solutions I'd like to hear them all please, thanks.

i have the same slowdown on 3 different high end computers when i turn on the map.. i havent been able to fix it though but its not unusual, what version of Diablo 2 do you have though because i dont experience problems with many monsters

Latest version LOD... it might have to do with the type of processor I got... people say celeron is a piece of @#$%!

no i have a pretty good computer for the age of diablo 2. AMD Athlon 2200XP 512 ram and 128 geforce fx5200. Now ill tell you my card sucks and its almost worth punting it across the street. But its diablo 2. And i still run it like a slideshow. I guess diablo 2 engine isnt built for new end cards. Its just too old. Time for world of warcraft.

I've been playing D2 for a long time. I started playing D2 with a brand new (at the time) 3dfx card called a Voodoo 5500. Game ran perfectly. Then, Neverwinter Nights came out, I upgraded to a MSI GF4400 card (a few years ago, and which, I still use) and D2 runs like crap on it... compared to the 5500 that is. D2 was designed for 3dfx... which, is now obsolete.
So, aside from trying to pick up a cheap, used 3dfx card... I'd say, live with it... since I have been everytime I get that D2 itch I must scratch.

I posted this further down, but if you're on WinXP you could try running the game in Windows 98 compatibility mode. You'll find the option in the icon properties.
Frankly, I doubt your system specs are to blame. I have the same graphics card and Diablo II runs beautifully - it did even with my old rubbish GeForce MX420, but only in compatibility mode. A friend was playing the game at the same time, with system specs lower than yours, and he had no problems either. He was running Win 98.
If you're not using XP, ignore the above!

Forgot to mention - in the driver settings for the graphics card, there are profiles set up for various games. I'm almost certain I saw Diablo II in there, but I'm not at home and can't check. It might be worth taking a look.
