Alright, i bought counter strike source and i have a few questions. first, i have a cable internet connection. anyhoo, im getting awfully bad choke, anywhere from 10-50 at times. however, im getting 0 packet loss. does high choke alone really do anything? Second, no matter what i put the video settings to, i always get the same ping of about 60. higher on the less detailed surf mpas (around 90) and lower in firefights (around 35-40). why is this? the recommended settings are everything high, but i run it with high model details, med text quality, low shader settings, no AA, trilinear filtering, vsync disabled, no hdr effects, and i still get poor frame rates
thx

ping has absolutely nothing to do with video. Ping is another word for latency, and although im not too sure what the units are, higher ping yields an increase in the time it takes for the data to be sent and recieved to and from the server. High ping=Bad. Low ping=good. The changes in ping are a result of the location of the server, not video settings, and has nothing to do with the type of map.
Your poor framerate is a result of your (no offense) bad PC. 6600GT is not the type of card you want to be playing current/next gen games.

haha i thought i am the only one. it seems this happen to alot of ppl. i have the same problem. geforce 6800, p4 3ghz and i get less 20 fps, sometimes less than 10, especially when you make an instant 90 or 180 degree turn. my ping is around 20-40.

>.< ping has nothing to do with video, and the ONLY thing you can do to get lower ping is get faster interweb service (LoL, I said "Interweb") or type "rate 25000" in your console. press the ` key (usually left of the [1]) to open console. If that doesnt work, go to options, keyboard, advanced, and hit enable developers console.

lol, i meant fps not ping. ive adjusted my rates a lot, but i always get a high choke. does that mean anything if there is no loss?
