Status OKi recently purchased the game CSI: Dark Motives from a legitimate UK online games supplier.
It installs fully but will not start or play.
i insert CD1 as asked and the game splash screen appears uninstall/play/register etc. i click play and larger splash screen CSI Dark Motives appears. after a few secondss i get this msg:
"Cannot locate the CD-ROM".
[CD/DVD emulation software has been detected. Please disable all CD/DVD emulation software and restart the game.]I installed the game to a folder called MyGames containing subfolders Action/Soccer/Demos/FPS etc.
when i try to access the MyGames folder it opens, then crashed to the desktop after a few seconds - as do the subfolders. However, now CSI is uninstalled, the MyGames Folder and all subfolders operate normally.
i have the CSI Dark Motives patch updater v 1 [1] 0 1. with or without this the action is the same.
i have installed/uninstalled the game both minimal and full several times to no avail.
i believe there is a fault within the CSI game files on one or other of the 3 CDs. It seems to me that there is no .exe file or it is corrupt, altho it shows the thumbprint icon as the appn or exe. file. i have just tried to install a number of other games and they install and run fine. i currently have all the necessary latest drivers and microsoft updates and my system is clean and healthy. would u please confirm there is a fault with the game or do i require some other software or a fix to run it? thank u in anticipation.what is CD/DVD Emulation software??
Anyone know what the problem could be whilst all other retail games start and run fine? thanx.
please note the crashing MyGames folder. whats likely to cause this?I Will Not Fail !!!

CD/DVD emulation software is used to copy the entire contents of a CD or DVD onto the hard drive and make the game think that the disk is inserted in the drive. Obviously, this type of program has legitimate (saves getting CD out each time to play a game)and illegitimate uses (Piracy), so some game publishers prevent their software from running if one of these programs is installed. Ubisoft also included such a detection system in Farcry. Typical programs are:
Daemon tools, alchohol among others..
Go to control panel, add/remove programs and look for anything suspicious looking in there. If you see something, don't delete it, just search on it in google to find out what it is first, then delete if it is emulation software.

HELP

For the solution was: uninstall Clone CD and remove keys in register:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elaborate Bytes\CloneCD\Settings
and/or:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Slysoft\CloneCD\Settings
