hi. i want to host a small server for a couple friends for cs 1.6. i use steams dedicated server tool, run it and everything is fine, so it seems. i can join my server. however, no one else can join. i think it has to do with my router, a US Robotics MAXg router. can anyone help me set up this server?

AH! i spent AGES trying to make a server in css and i finally found out a couple of months back. lemme tell u somethings 1st,

1.its gonna take ages to get it working perfectly

2.its gonna lag with a bad connection
3.prepare to throw your router out the window

ok , lets try the basics, goto http://www.whatsmyip.net/
, the number on the top is ur External ip , this is the ip u give to your friends , u connect to your Internal ip (starts with 192.blah blah blah)
give ur external ip (from the website) to your friends and make them :
1.go to console (enable in keyboard settings)
2. type (without quotions ) "connect <external ip>"
3. in the console of the game server , type "sv_lan 0"
4. if it works congrats :D if it dosent welcome to hell.... >:)

1. check your router settings, goto http://portforward.com/english/rout...
port fowarding is allowing other people in your router to connect to the game server. Set up Your router settings (every router is different so i wont help much for the router part)
enter the ports for your server (default is 27015)
this WILL give u hell , believe me

(im using wireless so it might be different)

then goto control panal , Network Connections and right click on ur connection and then properties
Goto Advanced tab , then tick "allow other users to connect through this internet connection
click "add" then type this (dosent have to be exact):

description of service , CS SERV1.
name or ip address , <external ip>
External port number for this service : 27015
internal port number for this service: 27015

tick tcp

Done 1st one

NOW make ANOTHER service and do this :

description of service , CS SERV2.
name or ip address , <external ip>
External port number for this service : 27015
internal port number for this service: 27015

tick UDP

And Now , start up your server , port number 27015, in the console of serv "sv_lan 0"

ur friends type in the console "connect <external ip>

and viola! install ur mani mod or whatever

i hope i helped cos i have a habit of trailing off or not explaining very well :S

=D
