Hi Guys,

I just got Crysis and expected it to run smoothly on my laptop with medium requirements, but to my disappointment it didn't. At no resolution even with low eyecandies did the game run smoothly. It cannot be comfrotobly played.

I jsut do not understand what the problem might be. I thought that my video card is one of the good ones out there for latptops.

Any suggestions?

I just downloaded AMD GPU cloak tool and it shows that my current cloak settings are:

Engine:445:5
Memory:346.5

2 questions:

1. Why are those readings so low when be default this card needs to be 500/400 or something like that

2, Should I overcloak? To what values? what are the risks?

Thanks

HOLY CRAP YOU HAVE A CLOAKING DEVICE! j/k

Are you getting some extreme lag that wont let you play the game or is it just not up to your standerds?

Before you overclock it try updating your drivers and DX
I saw a video on you tube of someone playing it with the HD2600, so it should run it.
As far as the clock speeds, wait for Jam or Saber they'll shed some light on that.
Just becareful Jam might talk you into buying a new laptop..lol I kid, I kid!

Yes you see how in the first link it says:

Core Speed 500 MHz
Memory Speed 600 MHz

Well why is mine 450/350. Even if I try overclocking it to 500/600 it screws up my display ..you see white spots and stuff. The most I can go to with the overclocking safly is 550/450 and then I still can't run Crysis. It will run somewhat smoother but again everything is in pixels...

Do you think this laptop is a little bit better :

Crysis will bring even the most powerful desktop to it's knees. What you need to do is lower your settings, turn off the eye-candy & disable all your background apps (including anti-virus) during game play. Hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, click the processes tab, then look at the very bottom of that window on the left...how many processes are running?

BTW, your memory speed is correct...double it for DDR.

I overclocked using Atitools to 627 Core/ 420 Memory and the game is now running almost smoothly (except on the beaches sometimes). However, what is the point playing this game without enjoying the view.

Btw isn't my ATI mobility hd2600 supposed to be at par with Nvidia 8600m GS.How come then the Nvidia has such high core/memory
600/700.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforc...

does this mean that the Nvidia is 1.5 times better especially if overclocked?

You can't compare specs between ATI & nVidia...it's apples & oranges.

1st thing you need to do is check the background apps like I suggested in response # 5. Vista is a resource hog as it is...if you have anti-virus, firewall, printers, cameras, instant messengers, Nero, Adobe reader, Quicktime, etc loading at startup, they're just sucking up even more resources. The anti-v & firewall are necessary when online, but not while offline gaming. And the other programs should NOT load at startup. They should be started manually on an as-needed basis. If you haven't already done so, run MSCONFIG & disable all the useless garbage:

What about your HD2600...does it use hypermemory or does it have a dedicated amount?

Thanks for the info.

My HD2600 has a dedicated 512 ram..and that is why I bought the laptop since I thought ..wowo 512 is a lot especially on pci express.

Apart from that I also stopped the controversial Superfetcher service in vista to save some Ram

Are you sure about that? According to the ABS website, it uses HyperMemory, which means is has *some* dedicated memory (either 128MB or 256MB) & the rest it steals from the system RAM.

"Video Card:
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
512MB Hyper Memory"

I am not sure how to check on my computer, but this is the link to newegg.com from where I bought the laptop:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...

It says:
Graphics
GPU/VPU ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600
Video Memory Dedicated 512MB
Graphic Type Dedicated Card

Althoug yesterday when I overclocked from 450/350 to 630/412 (max safe) and by following your advise stopped some processes so the when idle the memory usage fell from 600-700 to 400-500 ... the game was playable at 1024x780 with minimum (some normal) effects.
