Hi...
First of all,Im not a sissy, Im a chick so Im allowed to cry LOL

Secondly, I did a dumb thing, so please no lectures. LOL

I used a stupid little program, just playing around with my Diablo2 Lord of Destruction character. It was a little program called Charlie's Editor for D2 or something of the sort... anyhoo... it said before 'editing' your character, to back it up. Made total sense to me, and I backed it up using Charlies program. Well, my tinkering resulted in the error stating 'cannot use dead character' and the game wont load my character now. I didnt go crazy with the edits, just fine tuned my sorceress a bit to make her stronger and with more spells.
So... i figure ok, dont panic.. you made a back up ... YAY! Problem is, i have no clue what to do with this backup file. Its a .bak file and nothing i have will open it.
After many days and nights of slaying monsters, leveling up, and collecting a vast assortment of AWESOME items, i am back to zero now. Im ready to beat my head into my desk. Anyone have any clue of what i can do? how i can recover? I certainly learned my lesson... no more tinkering for me.
*sniffle*

The .bak file you have probably needs to be renamed to the file extension of the "character file" that you backed up. If you know the proper extension of the original file, rename the "character.bak" to "character.proper extension here". Hope I didn't confuse you further. Maybe someone who knows a little more about that particular game can assist some more.

Oops, you bwoke it.
You probably have to rename and move the bak file. You could ask the company that made your game what the file is supposed to be named and where it goes.
And if that doesn't work play Solitaire... I don't know anybody that cried over Solitaire. Actually I don't know anybody that cried over any game. Bahahah.

Bill Gates has performed 1024 illegal operations.

I hope he's sorry for the inconvenience.

Paul...
Thank you so very much. That was the trick! I renamed the file to my character name and POOF it was all back again. Thanks again... Youre a life saver!
