Which Is the best type of monitor to buy for gaming?

i hear LCDs are bad and in the past i'v found this to be true.. CTRS are nice and TFTS seem exspensive.

Money isnt a problem nor is space for the monitor.

any advice?

thanks.

LCD's aren't quite as good for gaming in image quality, but are nearly as good provided you get one with a good response time, and a native resolution you want to game at. Also remember LCD's last longer, use less electricity, and are easiser on the eyes. So while they may not be quite as good in image quality in games, they have other benefits that can make up for it.

Look for a monitor with a 12ms response time or lower. Highly recommend Samsung. Reliable, awesome response times, and very affordable.

I was a big critic of LCD's, but after I bought my wife a 19" Samsung LCD and saw what a good LCD can do with a low response time, I will definitely buy an LCD for my next monitor.

The "average" LCD isn't good for gaming & the ones with low refresh rates that ARE good for gaming are expensive. I'm not a bigtime gamer, but I'm sticking with CRT until the LCD prices come down & so do the refresh rates.

They are more expensive, granted, but...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824001185

Now you must keep in mind a few things...

#1. A 19" CRT is actually 18" viewable. A 19" LCD is 19" viewable, so a 19" LCD is "bigger" than a 19" CRT. That justifies some of the cost.

#2. The average lifespan of a CRT is less than half of an LCD! You can get a 19" LCD for less than double the price of a 19" CRT, so that alone justifies the cost, and it's bigger to boot. :-)

#3. LCD's use far less electricity. Over a 4 year span, a 19" LCD would consume $70 less of electricity if you average 40 hours of on time per week over that time compared to a CRT.

A Samsung 19" CRT is $190.

LCD is cheaper in the long run!

I really hope will someone give me a honest answer to this question...have I been punishing myself for close to three years by gaming on my LCD ?, because I would think by now I should have tossed the LCD out the window for a CRT, if gaming is as horrible as it's portrayed on it in any thread that puts is against a CRT.

Now this thread was just from a little over a year ago and there has been major progress made with LCD's since then. I am with hero on this one, there is more to LCD than just gaming and you need to look at the bigger picture.

Whether we like it or not CRT is very old technology.

List of Lists.

also is a TFT just a flat screen CRT?

I know little on monitors as you can tell.

so an LCD should have a 12Ms reponce time 2.4 dot thinggie and a resolution of 1280x 1024?

Look for something with a good contrast ratio, perferably 600:1 or better. That Samsung that I recommended is 700:1. Also it's response time is 8ms, better than 12ms. :-) Really hard to go with a different LCD unless you want something bigger.
