When playing NBA Live 2004 or Madden NFL 2004 the game will lockup and play a noise over and over rapidly. This only happens when I have been playing the game for an hour or so. I then have to restart the computer to get the game to work again.

i was just reading a topic about sumone else hu had games crashing. it sed "OK...when a P4 gets hot, it slows down rether than fry itself. Less Mhz, less heat. That was just a FYI and may not be your problem. Since it's apparently running quite a bit cooler with the side off, it looks as if we're talking about poor case ventilation here. Airflow should enter at the lower front of the case and exhaust at the upper rear (power supply area) of the case. The power supply fan is normally adequate to exhaust hot air from your machine. So, first check the power supply fan is running at something like full speed (should be humming right along), check that you don't have hard drive and floppy cables etc. blocking the airflow path, make sure the air inlet is not blocked by carpeting or a dead cat and visually check that the processor fan is spinning . A cheap paintbrush and a can of compressed air should remove built up dust from the cpu heatsink and power supply.
If your motherboard supports temperature monitoring, you should be able to check temps in the bios or you can downloat AIDA32, Hardware Monitor, or other software to see what's going on. Gaming in particular stresses the cpu and video card temperature wise.

To recap, make sure all fans are spinning, airflow path is not blocked and see if you can monitor temps. Then, post back and let us know if anything helped. Dont worry, it will fix. "

could this be MY problem too???

Dump the FX5200. That is an entry level card. I would bet that it only has a heatsink on it and no active (e.g. fan) cooling on it. In games, that card gets very, very hot. Pick up a FX5900XT or Ultra and party REALLY hard.

Regards.
