Comment:

When I play any game, no matter how graphically demanding it is, my comp will reboot itself, even low end games like Rise of Nations. I'll have perfect framerate, but then the game will freeze up with sound still going and I'm still able to move the mouse, then it reboots with a blue screen flash. This used to never happen, then it began to occur rarely, now it's every time I try to play a game.

I had the exact same problem with an old XP-3000/x800XT system that I had several years ago. The problem turned out to be bad video memory. I had to really underclock the VRAM to get it to run without error. I had to replace the videocard--it got to the point where I couldn't even run 2D applications without receiving a BSoD.

However, your problem may be caused by something else.

-Make sure the videocard isn't overheating (clean out all of the heatsinks and fans inside the case)

-Install the latest drivers for your hardware (videocard and motherboard chipset drivers are the most important for video-related problems)

-Run memtest86 for a few hours. (http://www.memtest86.com/) Is your memory okay?

-Check out the power supply. Who made it? How much power (in amps) does it push through each output rail (particularly the +12v rail(s))?

-General temperature guidelines: Maximum videocard temp shouldn't be higher than around 90°C (although some videocards will handle up to 105°C, while others crash at 85°. Maximum CPU temperature shouldn't be higher than 70°C.

Replacing Super P3:
Pentium M Dothan @ 2.82GHz (166x17)
3GB PC2-6400 @ 667MHz
9600GT
Blu-Ray
Modified PowerMac G4 Quicksilver case
Homebuilt 1920x1200 projector
Vista x86
