I successfully downloaded The Sims 2 on my computer. But while I play, it is extreamly laggy and takes a long time to do a simple action. I exceed the minimum specifications.
I am runnning Windows ME.
AMD 1.3 Ghz processor.
Unsure about the dvd speed.
I have pleanty of drive space.
I have directx 9.0.
And I have a 64 MB Nvida graphics card.I am not sure why it isn't working right. Perhaps the ram, or the video card. I just need to know what to get. Thanks a lot!

its your video card, and processor.
I have a amd 2400+ @ 2.0ghz, ati radeon 9000 128mb,1024mb ram. I dont lag in the house but i lag when i go out. I need a new video card.
Amd Athlon 2400+
1024mb ram ddr pc2700 2-2-2-5
128mb ati radeon 9000 300/250
80+40gb hd
antec 420 watt psu
creative sound blaster live 5.1
logitech z-640
16x dvd + 52x cd/rw

Computerguy firstly ditch ME and get a hold of win98se, also get your ram to atleast 512mb, and if you want a card that wont lag that game get a 9600pro or for cheaper possibly the ti42xx series which can be had second hand for pretty cheap nowadays, if your budget can stretch then get a better card but consult here before buying
Q-TEC 550 Watt PSU
MSI VIA KT4AV-L
2800+ Barton 512 DDR333
GeForce4 Ti 4200 128Mb
Aero 7 Lite
80Gb Samsung ATA133 HDD
120Gb WD ATA100 HDD
LiteOn LDW-851S
LiteOn LTR-52246S

should have said GeForce4 Ti4xxx
Q-TEC 550 Watt PSU
MSI VIA KT4AV-L
2800+ Barton 512 DDR333
GeForce4 Ti 4200 128Mb
Aero 7 Lite
80Gb Samsung ATA133 HDD
120Gb WD ATA100 HDD
LiteOn LDW-851S
LiteOn LTR-52246S

What type of processor is your AMD? If its a duron you might want to consider upgrading to an athlon. Plus your graphics card is most likely to be an GeForce 4 MX if so I would recommend a Geforce FX 5600 (or better) or an ATI equivelant.
Also you might want more RAM 512 recommended.
If you can be bothered doing all that. Then I suggest you tone the graphics setting down for the game, it might look crap but it should run faster.

I don't know if it's the processor.
I am also very slow, almost unplayable.
P4 2.4GHz prescott
Gigabyte 8133 m/board with builtin VGA
256RAM
40GB HDDI only have enough in the budget for RAM or Video card. I don't have any problems with any other applications, so RAM upgrade would only be for the SIMS. We don't play games other than this for graphics demands.
I am considering either:
1) add 256Mb RAM
2) Buy 128Mb ATI Radeon AGP 9200SE 8x - 128Mb
3) Buy Gigabyte Geforce mx4000 - 128Mb
All three options are roughly the same price ($75AU) but RAM is only about $65.
Anyone care to comment please. I've only ever used built-in VGA cards, as I'm not a gamer, but the 3D in the sims is quite demanding.
Cheers
Mike Sander

Hey Mike, Go for the NVidia card. I have both ATI and NVidia cards, and have found NVidia more trustworthy with ease of game compatibility. Built-In VGA these days are getting better, but still no match for any of the new gfx cards (Unless you count the NVidia laptop chips, those are nice from what i've seen)
