Comment: This Problem has started about a month ago...I have a 3 year old Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer (5.1 sound card) and i always have Hardware Accelerated/ EAX Sound enabled on every game. Now every time i turn on Hardware Acclerated Sound or EAX My Speakers Crack and Pop (this is in every game i have..... UT2004 DOOM3 CS DOD etc) But in starcraft after bout 10 minutes it goes mute, then it gets wierd after 5 mins of mute, I hear all the units i clicked on before in a really FAST and high piched tone. This dosent happen when i listen to music not in a game..... Now My speaker system is a Logitech Z-680. I have all my drivers updated. Do sound cards die after a while or what? Thanks BUtta My Fries

Reply: (edit)i have the same problem 5.1 audio also. Ive got the nforce2 ultra 400 chipset sound and i get distorted sound when i play doom3 after awhile. Im assuming that its got to process audio for 6 channels and that it overheats/overloads and starts crackling up and eventually kills the sound. the only way to combat this ive found is to turn off 3d surround, it sucks but you got to just deal with it. If you can play Halo PC just fine, then you have no problem to fix.
