Cant stay connected

this post is for a friend. Apparently he is having problems staying connected to online games. The problem first arose when playing Everquest 2, he would get frequent disconnects from the server. He called the game company and they said it was his modem. He then proceeded to buy a new modem, installed it, and still the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas on this. This is not the only game that does it to him, he has tested it with diablo 2 and gets the same problem. I know that dialup is slow, but it shouldnt be disconnecting him so frequently.
