This is because the programmers who wrote the game built in a mechanism to partially cripple the game if the core files (mainly the .exe) were modified (i.e a no-cd crack)
As far as I am aware from searcing on it, disabled build mode is due to this. Nobody has found a way around it yet.
Just use the disk in the drive like you're supposed to instead of using a no-cd crack.

Hey, actually guys there is a way around this and i found it once but never saved the page where i got it, it has something to do with daemon and how u mount it , as well as a particular software but when i get the software i will post it .
