Can someone tell if a graphics card has been overclocked if it is set to default clock speeds when it is given to them. I am asking this as i want to RMA my 9800pro as it has been running very slow recently.

As long as you didn't damage the GPU somehow by over-overclocking, I doubt the fact that it was at one time overclocked would be detected.

What do you mean your video card runs slowly? If it's not damaged, it's more likely that you've got something else going on...driver issues, spyware, etc

No spyware unless spybot search and destroy and ad-aware se havn't picked up on it. It runs games very slowly compared to before. Cs source
used to run at about 50-100 fps now runs at about 15-40 fps. Have tried many variations of the catalyst drivers. Also after a while of use
(about 3-4 hours) the driver stops working and it starts to use a standard vga driver. The screen becomes unreadable and i am forced to restart my computer.

If the drivers literally are switching on you, that's not a hardware issue.

Or do you mean the color palette changes to 16 colors.

Someone here had a similar problem recently and had come back to say it was fixed by updating his motherboard's chipset to the latest version.

Try that procedure first.

I was looking at how to do it and it all seems really complicated or is updating the bios different to updating the driver?

If you already have at least XPSP1, all you need is the Hyperion Pro 5.07A version of the driver.

Use a driver cleaner utility to completely remove the video driver and reinstall the initial driver that came with the card.
