i am planning to buy a new video card for my computer. It is a Dell Demension 3000 but before I do i wanted to know if i can even install a new video card to my computer. the video card im planning to purchase is a ATI RADEON X700 PRO 256MB GDDR3 AGP Graphics Card. So can my computer run this?

Nope it cannot. All you have is PCI slots which greatly limits your system gaming wise. Look around for a PCI card.
Processor P4@ 2.6 Ghz, FSB@535Mhz
RAM 512MB's PC2700/32001 256 stick of each. Hard Disk Drives 1 40 GB HD 1 10 GB HD CD/DVD Drives CDRW52X

so this is what i need to buy inorder to be able to install video cards for my computer?

Some video cards insert into a PCI Express slot so you will need to get a PCI Express video card.
Some video cards insert into an AGP slot so you will need to get a AGP video card.
Some video cards insert into a PCI slot so you will need to get a PCI video card.
Your motherboard only has PCI slots so your choice of video cards is limited stictly to PCI video cards. Check the link below for a descent deal on a PCI video card that will work with your motherboard.
Note: the X700 that you referred to is a PCI express video and will not work with your motherboard. Some video cards insert into a PCI Express slot so you will need to get a PCI Express video card.

Oooops!
Strike that last paragraph, I meant to paste the link.

I don't know how many different ways it has to be said...
Your board has PCI slots ONLY! There is NO AGP slot and NO PCI express slot...therefore, you MUST get a PCI video card!
That being said, PCI video is on the verge of extinction. There are very few PCI cards being manufacturered these days & the ones that are available are expensive & generally not great performers, but they're definitely an improvement over onboard video. Look for an nVidia FX5200 128MB/128-bit card. Newegg has em for about $75

yeah PCI cards are very limited as far as they can go, I just bought a card myself that offers moderate success as far as pci will go. Just make sure you know what your getting into before you start to buy, below is the link to the card I bought (Geforce FX5700LE), but make sure your system is atleast up to snuff before trying games like HL2 and doom 3 (heck even The sims 2), a must is 512 mb of Ram and a 1.8ghz processor (though those are some minimum specs there even) most people on this boards are hardcore gamers so unless your into maxing out every frame and options a dell 3000 series should serfice for an amount of time in these days.

A 5500 is more bang for the buck. If you get it, get powerstrip and overclock it. A ati radeo 9250 ould also be a good buy and can easily be overclocked using the ati tool.

The 9250 is a weak non-DX9 card...avoid it

Dude, you have a piece of crap DELL. You CANNOT add an AGP slot & there is no adapter. You're stuck with getting a PCI video card & there's nothing you can do about it, other than to buy a "real" PC.
If you want decent gaming performance, you only have a few choices in PCI cards. I suggest you get one with 128MB memory @ 128-bit, & supports DX9. I don't like recommending the FX5200, but it's probably the cheapest alternative:
CHAINTECH Geforce FX5200 128MB 128-bit for $73:

If best gaming performance isn't a priority, here's a cheaper choice. I guess anything's better than onboard:
XFX Geforce4 MX4000 64MB 128-bit for $39:

Your adamance is interesting, but I guess it'll help you grasp more about computers in a lot less time. However the reality at this time is, you can ONLY get an AGP card in your computer if you BUY an AGP based MOTHERBOARD, so let it go.

This is a decent card for a PCI slot...but its performance isn't great for the price COMPARING it to AGP and PCI-E cards in the same range, but since it's the best available...I am informing you it exist. It is not a bad card by any means.

im going to get a game called battlefield 2 i have 2 vid cards in mind these are the system requirments for it:
Target Minimum Specification Machine:
1.7 Ghz CPU
512 Megabytes of RAM
128 MB video card (must support 1.4 shaders)Recommended Specification Machine:
2.66 Ghz CPU
1024 Megabytes of RAM
256 MB video cardand these are the 2 vid cards im planning to get:

which one of these two will be able to run it with good graphics or do they both suck?

My advise: Get a new PC. ;)

Are you even reading your responses?
You've gotten several PCI card recommendations & the Radeon 9250 is NOT one of them! It's weak, it doesn't support DX9, & since it doesn't list otherwise, it's probably a 64-bit card. And 256MB is completely unnecessary & a waste of money...$117 is WAY too much to spend on that piece of crap card.
Like I said...get an FX5200 128MB/128-bit card. Make sure it's uses the 128-bit memory interface. Do NOT get a 64-bit card! If 128-bit isn't mentioned in the product description, it could very well mean it's a 64-bit card. 128-bit is a selling point & is usually mentioned somewhere in the specs. 64-bit is a low performance card...many times, the 64-bit info isn't listed. In that case, go to the manufacturer's website to see if it's listed there. If not, don't chance it....look for a card that specifically states 128-bit memory.

Try reading the reviews...maybe it will sink in:

"im going to get a game called battlefield 2 i have 2 vid cards in mind"
Time to get a few new systems in mind instead. ;-)

Judging from the screenshots of the game and taking the minimum requirements into consideration it looks like if you want to be able to decently play this game you will have to upgrade most of your computer. Even if a PCI video card has 128Mb it is still extremely slow. I think that even at the lowest settings of Battlefield 2 you would expriance really slow game play. But if you are not leaning towards buying a new system then I would suggest a card like the Geforce FX5500. I suggest that instead of buying this card you wait awhile and save your money towards a new system because when you do buy it you will want a better video card and this one will go to waste.

"i just want to play the game"
I know...but so far from what I've read about the game, I have serious doubts your machine even upgraded to as good a PCI video card you can get will run that game well.

I am going to purchase battlefield 2 but i need a new video card. does anyone know if the eVGA GeForce 5500 128mb will work with bf2? Im not looking for exceptional graphics just what i need to play smoothly and the card is very cheap. Thanks for the help. If you do have an answer can you please send it to my email? Thanks alot.
