It meets the minimum requirements, but you may have to settle for the lowest settings

even with the lowest setting, 256mb is just not enough. the windows itself takes almost 50% of it before you run the game.

You want at least 512mb of RAM and a better video card.

Processor isn't that bad; it's a P3-based Celeron, which should be about as fast as 2GHz P4 based Celeron. (P3s did more work per clock cycle than P4s)

Yeah, that'll be fine, just make sure you force DX7 interfaces.

For medium, it's not gonna cut it without the RAM. Even the video card and CPU give me pause if it's even feasible to run at medium. However, you should be able to run at minimal image quality settings.

Because they're betting you'd buy it if they say that. ;-)

Most games have minimum requirements & recommended requirements. Your system currently meets the minimum. Even if you increase the RAM amount to 512MB (which you should do regardless), you'd still have a weak CPU & low end video card. You can certainly try to run at medium settings, but the lowest settings will run the best.

yes i would increase the RAM regardless of HL2. but anyway it should run on "customized" image settings that re something like medium-low. it ran on my old rig:

1.0ghz P3
512mb PC133 SDRAM
ATI Radeon 9200 128mb

i would venture a guess that the FX5200 is better then a Radeon 9200...
