Am I the only person on the planet to get decent performance out of our little cards people?

Anyone else get sizzling frame-rates in Call Of Duty? or Max Payne 2? or UT2003?

I'm getting pretty píssed off with people calling me a liar when I say I can run these games in full detail!!!

Rally to the cause my MX using friends, let me know how you find the cards, and what setup do you use them in?

Well I did use an MX440 for a while and I was ready to use it as something to take my anger out on. I hated it and had no good luck with it. I always had missing pixels in a game, slow fps, and compatablility issues.

I have the same card. Here's a few of the games I run at max details.

ViceCity
Unreal Tournament 2003
Max Payne 2
Postal 2 Share The Pain
NBA LIVE 2004

I can even play Prince of Persia which isn't even suppoesed to run on the 440mx. The 440mx is a decent enough card but when compared to a $500 dollar card the 440mx is crap LOL. I am very happy with this card for the money I spent.

System Details,
Geforce 4 440Mx Se (o/c'd to 300/400)
2.7 ghz cpu
1 Gig ddr

Hooner,

Your having held onto this card for so long, makes me understand your raves about the card, but pumping the card up so much makes me wanna ask if Nvidia is heavily bankrolling you ;~{().
How I wish I could substantiate this with your bank statement.

Let's be honest GeForce 4 MX440 is a nothing but a cheap low-end GeForce 4, more like a GeForce 2 Turbo. If you keep pumping up it the whole gaming community will have to a closer look @ your guy meter ;~{() to make sure it ain't broke..lol

As far as I know the only difference between the 440mx and 440mx Se is the S-Video out and higher bandwidth. I may be wrong though.

I wish it would get to the main menu, it would make it a lot easier. All I had to do was put the special effects slider to the middle. Make sure you have the latest drivers installed, this game needs them.

There is one other way to get this game to run. It involves using 3D-Analyze to emulate pixel & vertex shaders. I'm looking for the page now. I'll post the url when I find the page.

Here's one page that has the info but it's in french. Download 3D-analyze and check the options listed on that page. Also make sure to have 3D-analyze load "prince of persia.exe" and not "pop.exe".

This method is pretty hit and miss but it does work for some. It helped me until I figured out the special effects trick.

Good Luck,

Sabertooth, I see your point, lol.

I sound like some sort of new-age preacher, but the truth is I'm just a broke guy (probably something to do with the new mobo, ram, cpu, psu, case, or just the fact I go down the pub a lot.......) keeping a light shining for other poor unfortunate devils with empty pockets :-)

You don't NEED to go and spend £200 - £400 on a video card (sure, it'd be nice to!). You can pick up a £30 - £50 card which will still do a great job with todays games.

Church is now over :-)

Nice one Sandman, thankyou very much!

I've never heard of shaders being emulated, think I'll do some research now ;-)

I ran an MSI GeForce 4 MX440 64MB for a year, had no problems whatsoever. I was even happy with the eye candy it afforded. A great card for the $$.

It's not bad...I can play alot of stuff, but it leaves alot to be desired

w00t! I purchased 2, yes, 2 MX440's for $60 a pop, and they've always worked great. Now that I'm done with them and have gotten myself an Asus Radeon 9800XT 256 (*sexy*) I can sell them and get an excellent return on my investment. I was very happy with the cards' performance in almost every game that I tried them with, however with Half-Life 2, Doom 3, and Far Cry coming out soon, I figured I'd need to beef up a little bit. Take away nothing from the MX440, I love that card (and it's totally compatible with Linux! ;) )

I selected the MX440 as an inexpensive upgrade for an older computer. The machine is a PIII 800mhz that came with a GeForce256. The difference was obvious, even dramatic in some games, when I upgraded. I paid $70-$80 for the MX440 and selected the LeadTec because they have added a real fan.

I haven't tried any of the cutting-edge games you mentioned, but I think the relatively slow processor would prevent decent performance anyway. In short, I recommend the MX440 as an upgrade, but if I were building a new computer, I'd certainly want better.

Best Wishes,
Bob

My last thoughts on the 440mx.

The 440 is a decent enough card but it is DEFINITELY nearing the end of its rope. In the near future there are going to be many games that this card won't handle very well or at all. Prince of persia is an prime example of this.

Am I happy with the card for what I paid? Yes

Would I pay the same price again today. No

Do I see a videocard upgrade in my near future? OH HELL YEAH lol, just got 8x agp after all :)

Please forgive a bored rambler, I had some time to kill :þ
