Reply: (edit) Yes, I did try reinstalling NVIDIA drivers several times but in vain!
I downloaded latest drivers from NVIDIA website only to find that it's giving error message while installing - "No compatible hardware found"......So I had to install NVIDIA GeFOrce driver 6.14 which got installed easily and works fine for other games like PAINKILLER, DOOM3, MOHAA, SOF2 etc. I am eager to play CALL OF DUTY please suggest - how to fix this OPENGL initialization problem?? Thanks in advance COD

Reply: (edit)Did you update directX? The game requires 9.0 I believe. Also, go to start-->control panel-->system-->hardware (tab)-->device manager. In this window locate the video card--->rightclick on it-->uninstall it-->reboot-->reinstall the card. (if windows doesnt pickup the card then goto start-->control panel-->add/remove hardware.

Reply: (edit)The card could be either to good or not comppatible with the game. You can adjust the hardware acceleration of the card. I have had this work for me when I had issues with a different game. To do so, right-click on the desktop-->properties-->settings(a tab)-->then click the advance button. Look around in this window for an accelartion bar, make minor changes to test it, and only change one setting at a time. Another option that is not as likly to work, right-click on the exe that runs the game-->properties-->then compatibility-->try running it in win98 The second option probably wont work, but let me know.

Reply: (edit) Hi, I tried changing the hardware acceleration but no use. The game didn't run with any of the settings.
Also, the game .EXE file doesn't have compatability tab. Please suggest another solution. Thanks. COD

Reply: (edit)Well, this is the advice I really didn't want to have to give you, but I have spent some time researching your problem and have come to this conclusion. Your video card isn't supported by this game. In order to get around this, you may want to unhook your PCI (im guessing its PCI) video card and use your onboard graphics card. If you dont have an onboard, look to purchase a Radeon, preferably AGP card if you have a slot for one in your pc. In my expierence Radeons tend to be supported by games far more than NVIDIA. Good luck, and sorry I couldn't get it to work for you. The best I can do is inform you the video card / driver is the problem, its conflicting with the game. Not much help, I am sure you probably already figured that out. :P

Reply: (edit)Hi, Thanks anyway for all you help. I appreciate. I have NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP8X card. Also, I have onboard Graphics card. Probably you are right in saying that I'll have to remove the Geforce in order to play call of duty but then Other games like DOOM3 or MOH Pacific assault won't run unless I plug the card again. I will do some more research before I try this option. Thanks again. COD

Reply: (edit)Well, I am betting you have your games will run, but less efficient while using the onboard video. You will probably see some lag while in graphic intensive areas. (large battles, lots of units on screen, etc...) While researching, look for AGP radeon. Make sure you have a slot for it before you buy, and check the max speed of your AGP slot if you have one. (best is 8x AGP) You could post your PC manufacturer and model andd I could find out for you. FYI --- The PCI slot is the slower than agp and by upgrading you will have a superior speed. The An AGP slot is always located close to your CPU this way data has a shorter distance to travel, thus, it is much faster. The AGP slot is smaller than a PCI slot. Click Here for an example. The agp slot in this picture is grey, and is located next to the CPU. Tot he right of it are four yellow PCI slots.

But then tried on my laptop 2.8GHz, Ati 7000 Mobility but with 196RAM (stil more than min spec) and was sooooo crap, worked fast if I looked at the ground, but REAAAAAAAAALY slow otherwise... ....Is there a way to reduce the draw distance or any other suggestions???? Thanx

Reply: (edit)Well oncologenius, my advice would be to check your laptop bus speeds. Even with a fast processor your computer may have problems transfering enough data fast enough to keep up with the performance of your cpu. In CoD you can goto the main menu-->options-->graphics and turn down the texures. The game will be lower quality graphics but better performance. Unfortunatly, no fog of war option to reduce your sight range. You could also try this: right-click desktop-->properties-->settings-->adapter--> and adjust your hardware acceleration to maximize your video performance.
