Specs: Windows 7 ultimate
hey all,
so i am a student (cash is tight) and im looking to seriously upgrade my current celeron D fx5200 setup.

I would like a system that could play modern warefare 2 fairly well, mabe assassins creed 1, Grid, those sort of games.

I already have a 500w power supply, dvd R9 drive Hard Drive and case,

so all i really need is new mobo, processor, ram and grafix card.

im looking at a £200 - £300 price point

thanks a million in advance ;)

"i already have a 500w power supply"
how much did u pay for a psu? We need to know the amps especially on +12v rail.
Cpu: look for pentium dual core or athlon II X2/x3/x4.
Board: if u decide to buy intel cpu then look for a board with intel chipset p45, g45, p43, g43, p35.
If u decide amd look for 785g, 790gx, 870 chipsets.
Ram: go with ddr2 800 1.8v (2x2gb) 64bit os is required
video card: gts 250 1gb or hd 5670 1gb.

im not sure of the amps (in dont have it on front of me, although i may buy a new ps as well as my current one is 3 y/o)

how does this setup sound.

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition £79.99

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO £66.84

9800gt £87.51 (isnt the gts250 a repackaged 9800gt?)

Kingston 2GB (2x1GB) DDR3 1066MHz £40.04

i chose the mobo/cpu bundle on the off chance i get lucky and can unlock the 2 extra cores

that setup is lyk £275 so within my limit

ps OS is not an issue (both 64 and 32 bit win 7 are available to me)

ps, how would this setup deal with high end games like fsx, crysis and dirt 2?

Thanks again :)

You need more RAM & it should be DDR3-1333.

ok, so taking on board your advice, how does this sound

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition 3.2GHz (with unlocked core's to Phenom II X4 B55 Black Edition 3.2GHz)

Asus M4A785TD-V EVO 785G

EXTRA VALUE 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory Kit 1.5V CL9

PALIT GTS250 Green 512MB GDDR3

Arctic Power 700W PSU With PCI-E, 4x SATA, 20+4, ATX12V, 8pin +12V Connectors

That Little lot comes to about £285 which is within budget nicely

would i be better with that 400watt psu?

and also, if i was unlucky and got a 555 that wont unlock, can i return it? (long distance selling regulations)

also if i was OCing the X4 (to say 3.5ghz) what cooling (on my budget) could i get?

how many fps do you predict i could get in crysis and fsx on fairly high settings?

May i just say thank you all so much, your input has been amazing :)

with that specs u can run crysis high (u can enable sunshaft which eats 2 fps)
better buy gts 250 with 1gb of video memory. Newer titles require more video memory to run smooth.
I believe stock cooler will handle 3.5ghz fine.
Yes u will fine with Corsair cx 400w.
