Last week I was browsing through my archive of games when I came accross Black & White. I haven't played this game for ages now and I thought I would spend some time on it. I didn't realise the can of worms I was opening due to the fact that my OS is now XP.

I have installed all of the patches that I know of (1.0, 1.2 and 1.3) I have made many adjustments with my FX5900 incase it was that. I have even tried the 'No CD' exe but I can't get it to run. I get the initial B & W startup screen, it then shrinks to the task bar and then closes. I have tried the useless XP compatability modes on every setting but still to no avail. Now I'm the type of guy that won't give up until I get it sorted but short of creating a dual boot with Win98 & XP (big job) I'm out of ideas.

Please Help. I really want to play this fabulous game again.

Many thanks in advance.

No chance I'm afraid. Dual boot it is.

Some people are like Slinkies™, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

Tried it and it didn't work. The funny thing is, I have now set my PC up to dual boot with XP/98. I installed the game and it worked fine in 98. I then installed the three patches that I spent so much time downloading and guess what? the game no longer works. It's telling me I have a missing file of some description. I'll get there in the end...

Cheers

I think that I'm having worse problems with black and white than other people. When I run the game my processor spikes and my computer restarts.
I have an Intel Celeron 1.7 Ghz
640 MB ram
on board graphics which came with the combo unit processor and bord.
im running xp pro. tried everything all the patches, i even reformated my hard drive and installed 98 didnt work. 2000, didnt work, tried all the compatibility modes and uninstalled nortons nothing seems to work.
its reall starting to get agravating.
