No thoughts right now, but I would assume something is different between the BF2 discs and other discs. Are these burned discs, how do they look pysically: scratched , dirt, etc??

BF2 uses Safedisc4 copy protection which may cause these problems if you have any drive emulation software installed

The mere fact that you had Alcohol 120% may be enough. If there are any registry settings that were left behind in the uninstallation, the SafeDisc4 might detect it. You could try a registry cleaner and also making sure that the program folder was completely deleted.
There is also a Nero component that is an optional install which many safeguards don't like. You might try the supoprt forums for BF2 - I bet there is a list of programs that should not be present.

The function in Nero to create images is not the problem, there is a component that allows you to mount an image as a virtual drive. It is called NeroImage drive. From what I read in an article previously, if you have this installed, you will need to totally uninstall nero then reinstall without that component.
