Hey, i'm going to get a new harddrive. And then i'll buy a new graphics card.

I have an HP a345c motherboard.

PCI - Three (two open)
DIMM - Two (one available)
AGP 8x - One (available)
It says I have the following on the HP website:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00039936

And here is some more information about my motherboard if it helps:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c00006476#c00006476_doc

I'd like to know, what is the best graphic card I could get, preferably under $380, i'd love for it to be less than $300 though.

Do they sell the HP computer a345c in different types, like, one without pci, one with agp, etc ? If not, then the information above should be correct. Not sure how to tell what kind of slot I have, sorry.

Thanks :D

With that system, it is absolutely not necessary and is in fact a waste of money to spend even over $200 on a graphics card.

I would recommend the Nvidia 6600GT.

No use spending more for a card with your CPU not being high end. This card is more than enough for your CPU.

Upgrade to a gig of memory instead of wasting more money on something higher end than the 6600GT.

Then get a 6600GT and be done with it.

The 6600GT allows for all the graphics options of a $600 card. It simply lacks the horsepower to do them that $600 cards have. However, you would need a high end CPU with a high end graphics cards to achieve those kinds of results.

In short, if the game doesn't run smooth and have awesome image quality on the 6600GT, even with a high end graphics card, it wouldn't have run smooth because you don't have a high end CPU.

With that said, you'll be able to run every game out there reasonably well, with many running very well.

I have to mention that the 6600GT card can be a bit picky. It just doesn't like some motherboards and/or chipsets, I think it is due to the crossover chip. This is a PCI-E card fit with a chip to make it work in an AGP slot. Many of the problems can be fixed by bios adjustments and/or updates, however many OEM boards do not give many bios updates or options. It may be better to stick to a card that was actually built for AGP.

A friend bought the xfx 6600GT and it would not work in 2 out 3 machines he has. One that didn't was an older HP. After he told me I searched for problems on yahoo and found that some cards wouldn't work with some boards. It was mostly with older boards and wasn't the majority but I thought I would mention it.

Sure that wasn't something to do with those older motherboards and not because the video card is PCI-e native?
