It's probably not worth the investment. The 9800 Pro has a lot of live left in it yet & chances are, your next rig will use PCI-express video

I agree with jam. I'm still running a 9800 pro, and although it's not top notch, it can still handle new games at decent settings. Just wait for your next motherboard upgrade, and stick a PCIe video card on there.

I concure with the above two, your rig will do you fine until you eventually have to upgrade to a PCI-Ex borad (in which case your new 9800pro replacement card won't migrate to) Kind of self defeating if you ask me.

jam, don't you just love the edit button?

Might get a little bit more live at of your card if you try Oc'ing it, but it wont be a substational insrease. Also, consider using trird party drivers, in particular "Omega's Drivers". And keep ATI's AI enabled (optimizations without noticeable image degradation).

Best AGP video card is the Radeon X850XT Platinum Edition. It can nearly be overclocked to the speed of the GeForce 7800GT with the stock cooler, provided that the case has enough ventilation and the PSU enough wattage.
Is that 3200 an A-XP, P4, or A64? If it's a P4 or A64, the video card could be worth upgrading. A video card like the 6800GT AGP or X800XL AGP is roughly twice as fast as a 9800 Pro; the X850XT (PE) even faster.

Not on a system based on a 3200 CPU, no matter if it's P4 or Athlon 64. It will be faster probably, but I don't see it being worth the price.

He has a great card now...it's not like he's running a GF2. The 9800 Pro rates right up there. The X800XL & X850XT cost over $300!

The gigabyte X800XL is $250.

If you're daring, you could get a refurbished Asus X800XL off of newegg for only $219. X800 video cards are getting cheaper now that the new X1800s are out.

And a 3.2ghz/3200+ is easily fast enough to reap the benefits of a good performance-mainstream card such as the X800XL.

"...That [money] could then be put towards a faster GPU, which will have a far greater impact on games than a 200 or even 400 MHz CPU upgrade."

Didn't deny that. I just said with his CPU, I don't see the point in spending $250 on a graphics card when his card already performs pretty well.

Anandtech is pointing out GPU is better price performance often times over a CPU when building a new system. When I built my Athlon 64 3000 system, I certainly got a better video card than a 9800 pro equivalent. You're missing one key point here...

He already has a 9800 pro.

Some people work for their money...others have money handed to them by people for work for their money. I'm not a young kid & my parents are long gone, but my dad worked his ass off to make sure we all had what we needed...one thing he instilled in me (& my brother & sisters) is to make the most of what you have. Maybe I take that too much to heart sometimes....
