Yup, as Zero says, 3DMark03 is the best for modern gaming systems, or if you have a slightly ageing game rig 3DMark2001 SE is your best bet.

Some people are like Slinkies™, not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs...

Oh, and for benchmarking your whole PC on various different aspects, you can't beat PC-Pitstop.

I think benchmark tests are meaningless, because they only spit out a bunch of meaningless numbers. The best benchmark test you can run is by downloading the demo and if you're happy with the performance, then your PC passed the test.
