when i boot up battlefield 1942 the sound NOT THE VIDEO gets choppy when is says EA games, dice, and the intro. when i get to the main menu runs normal. When i get into a game it runs good on litle under high graphics. About ten minutes in the game it gets so choppy it is unplayable then it all the sudden quits to the desktop! On the lowest graphics it doesnt get choppy but it still quits about 15 min into the game. what can be the problem? I have stock drivers but where can i get NEW drivers for this old MX420 card? Maby i just need a new video card, if i do what NVIDIA card should i get for not too much money?

It's probably the MX 420. It's pretty crappy now. And was too. The geforce 3's outperform it. Go with something like a Nvidia FX 5700 Ultra 128 MB version. The 256 is pointless.

I dont understand how it is the video when the game runs PERFECTLY for 10 minutes anyway for a new card how is a geforce FX 5200, its around 100 bucks and it seems to run BF1942 on high graphics with no problem on my friends computer. Whould that last a few years?

Sometimes things just wear out. But I didn't read quite right. So if that's the case, you might have a memory problem. Are you loosing resources? That could be it.

Geforce MX420 should work fine with Battlefield. Sounds like you have a lot of problems...so here are my suggestions.

*the sound NOT THE VIDEO gets choppy when is says EA games, dice, and the intro.*

This is probably because of your sound card. Install the latest drivers for your sound card and make sure that your sound card is not sharing its IRQ with other hardwares.

*then it all the sudden quits to the desktop!*

Probably caused by overheating. Try playing Battlefield with your PC Case open and see if that helps. You could also try installing the latest drivers for your motherboard.

*About ten minutes in the game it gets so choppy *

Could be spywares, adwares, bad ram. Your GPU may be overheating. make sure that its not sharing any irq's...try all the stuffs above

*where can i get NEW drivers for this old MX420 card?*

http://www.nvidia.com

If you want a gfx card that has great performance, then get a 9600 Pro. They are only about $132 at Newegg and they kick FX5200's a**. FX5200 is only a budget card and even if it supports Dx9, it is a piece of sh*t...even your MX420 could outperform it.

To view your IRQ settings, go to
Start > Control Panel > System > Device Manager and highlight "Computer" and click on properties. If your Sound Card or GFX card(usually IRQ 11) shares an IRQ with another device other than ACPI IRQ FOR PCI IRQ Steering, that might be causing your problem. The best way to change that device's IRQ is to take out the card and put it into another open PCI Slot.
