bf2 is giving me loads of problems.

sometimes it works often it crashes,

it locks up sometimes when verifying my name and password, but mostly, when verifying client data when connecting to a server...

its a nightmare... if it doesnt lock up at this point, it either takes an eternity to give me the load game button, or i have to alt and tab into windows, and then back into the game, and often it works.

i have a usr 5462 wireless router. this p.c. is connected by cable to the router however...

i have been told this issue is down to port forwarding on the routers firewall but i cant suss out how to unblock them on it.

Okay.. well for us to better understand your issue you need to tell us your system specs.. Like RAM and video card, BF2 is a very demanding game and it takes a decent video card to play it even on the low settings.

If it were a router config issue, it would never work, and alt+tabbing wouldn't do anything to fix it.

also this board seems to have stripped out part of the domain name thinking that it was used in a dirogatory way.

Here is my post to the solution I found:

Not sure about the rest of you but I had this issue with the "Verifying Client Data" part of the game loading.

this is when PunkBuster is basically purging all the files in the games program folder and verifying the integrity of each to make sure that they have not been altered
for the sake of cheating..

this was taking about 2-3 mins each time..

in my setup I have 2 harddrives. One as a system drive and one as the programs drive.

I had one ide cable connecting the the cdrom to the secondary ide controler as master.
and I had another ide cable connecting the other 2 hard drivers (one as master one as slave) to the primary ide controler.

I have seen issues in the past where you have a cdr and a cdrw on the same cable and it cannot properly directly copy the cdr to the cdrw soo... I decided to
give the programs drive its own ide cable / not sharing the ide controler with anything else. the system drive was then sharing a cable with the dcrom instead....

reboot - configure bios and WALA!!!

the game loads in about 1 min or so !!!
