Ok heres my problem- i purchased a new graphics card after noting down the games requirements as listed on the back of games cover shortly after its release. To cut a long story short i purchased the Nvidia GeForce 6600 256 mb as it was on the list of supported video cards.
Yesterday i purchased the game from a local shop and the said graphics card from ebay and was over the moon that i would soon be playing the game. Then i opened the game to read the instructions and was confronted with the list of supported video cards only this time the card that i purchased had "(PCIe)" at the end of its name and i seen no mention of the card in AGP which is what i bought. :(
Can someone please please tell me if they think the card that i purchased will run battlefield 2?
I know what it says there but in the instruction booklet of the game and on a few websites that i have looked up since yesterday i have found this:
- Video Cards Battlefield 2 only supports the following video cards: Radeon X700 (PCIe) Radeon X600 (PCIe) GeForce 6600 (PCIe) GeForce PCX 5900 (PCIe) GeForce 5800 Series (AGP) ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition ATI Radeon X800 PRO ATI Radeon 9800 Series ATI Radeon 9600 Series ATI Radeon 9550 (RV350LX) ATI Radeon 9500 / 9700 Series ATI Radeon 8500 Series ATI Radeon X300 Series NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra NVidia GeForce 6800 GT NVidia GeForce 6800 NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Series NVidia GeForce FX 5900 Series NVidia GeForce FX 5700 Series
Now if you look at "GeForce 6600 (PCIe)" - this is the graphics card that i purchased except that mine is (AGP) and this card is not mentioned as being supported. What i want to know is if there is any real difference between the PCIe and AGP versions of this graphics card and most importantly, will BF2 run on it?
This is causing me real confusion firstly because im not really clued up about this sort of thing and secondly because EA made no mention on the back of the games cover about whether or not the cards need to be PCIe or AGP. Its really possible that i have blown my money on a card that wont run this game.
It will run fine. That's just the expansion slot interface on the motherboard. Currently, there has been insignificant or no performance difference between a PCI-e and AGP version of the same card. The reason the AGP version wasn't listed is probably because they didn't have AGP versions of the 6600 at the time that supported list was written.
In short, enjoy BF2.

Hey I had a question I have a radeon 9250 I cant run BF2 even though on the box it says 8500 or above, oh well im over it. But I have only PCI slots and I need a card that will run BF2 any suggestions? Im thinking only one I could get is a jaton FX5700. Is this true?
