I have 3 computers, Athlon xp2800, Duron 1300 and P3 866. All have multiple partitions and multiple installations and Geforce 64mb VGA cards and 512mb memory.
The Duron reboots in the middle of games randomly though less since I upgrade the processor from 850hz.
With the Athlon, the mouse jumps like crazy on both partitions Xp and XP pro, and I have adjusted the settings to slow it down but it still gets hairy on some of the graphic intensive maps.
The P3 runs great.
Does anyone else have any ideas to help solve this?
I have absolutely no problems with other games such as Call of Duty or Age of Mythology so I'm thinking there is something I'm missing. I've looked around and seen sporadic messages on sites but no fixes that have worked. I've tried all the patches and different video card drivers, Directx9 and adjusted the game settings but they don't seem to help.
We usually play LAN games but it's the same in Single player mode too.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Oh ya, Its the real retail game, not warez.
Thanks

Ok, well to start Battlefield 1942 is a very pc intensive game it relies on a lot of memory very high power processors and a quality graphics card, now if you patch it to the most recent version (1.6) you might solve some of your problems as 1.6 includes fixes for computer issues. You might also want to make sure as many programs and all but a few background tasks are closed before playing, do a full virus scan and also check for spyware/adware with Spybot Search and Destroy.
With your pcs I advise getting at least one with a high end graphics card, it seems you like games and getting a decent graphics card will prove well worth its money, I'd advise a Radeon 9800XT if you want to splash out otherwise go for a cheaper one from nvidia or a lower spec Radeon. You might want to check out www.dc-central.com a fansite for the Desert combat mod. They have some good tech support forums when you register.
If you get a new gfx card switch it around in the machines seeing if that helps and also try a ram upgrade, for Battlefield 1942 its advisable to have 1gb of ram.

I've done the patch thing, always run Spytbot and ADAWARE, turn off my firewalls and have my background apps configured to the minimum that I can for a networked computer.
I guess it all comes down to the video card.
The xp 2800 computer has a Geforce FX 5200 card which I figured would be better than the MX 440's. I guess that is where the problem lies.
It's funny how the P3 has no problems being a much slower prcessor.
1000mb memory. WOW!
I would have figured that 512 would be enough for anything, except of course rocket science.
Thanks for the insight. I have a post on another site and they suggested the video card as well so that seems pretty much the concensus.
I guess that's what I get for trying to cheap out on a video card. Thanks

I saw a post concerning sound and adjusted it to a lower setting as well as reviewing my graphics settings. It seems that my wife had been playing around with the settings as well, of course without telling me.
I reset the graphics to medium and the sound as well.
Since the problem was on both partitions I guess the game had given her high settings by default.
Anyway, all is well now. Thanks again.
