When playing Counterstrike (1.6, Steam version) and a bunch of people are firing in the same area (and I'm in that area), the game lags for me. If I use stopsound to stop environment sounds, it doesn't help, and nosound 1 doesn't help either. I turn down 'sample rate conversion quality' in windows control panel to lowest, it doesn't help. I turn off all extra option in nVidia SoundStorm control panel, and doesn't help.
What else can I try, or is there some obvious setting I'm overlooking?

usually is not sound, 1st check your internet connection then graphic. talking about the graphic, 1st, when you are in an area that lots of people are firing there, turn your face around, dont face at them, look away, like look at the ground or the wall. if you still hear the sound lag or feel lag, then it might be the sound problem, some on-board sound card doesnt support that well. ATI 9200 is enough for cs 1.6. shouldnt be a problem, unless its CS:S.

kingstom 1GB DDR 3200
Nvidia geforce FX 5950 256mb

Internet connection is always fine. Motherboard hsa nVidia on-board audio and is very good quality, so I doubt that. But I tried Windows Update (another problem) and it broke my computer. So I reinstalled and it worked fine. The Windows Update problem is that whenever I use Windows Update, I cannot boot Windows again once I restart.
