Hey all,
I have noted that my video chip is running VERY high temps sometimes while playing games or pausing them, then coming back after a break. I am ignorant of what is actually considered TOO HOT so I'm posting here for learning and also getting some advice on what to do if in fact this is something to worry about.
First...I have never had the slightest problem with my PC in any way. It is a BTX design with a PCI express card-slot. What alerted me to the possibility of a cooling problem is that this PC is normally almost inaudible while running.
I had noticed the case fan running pretty loudly a few times but never thought anything of it. As I said...normally this doesn't happen. One day I got curious about it and opened the Catalyst Control Center while this was happening. My video card was running at 92 Celsius. I began to track the temps during various times in different applications. "Normal" temp range for my card seems to be 67-78 Celsius and during long stretches of 3-D games or games set to 'pause' mode it can run from 81-92 Celsius.
Like I stated; I have had no problems....but I don't want any either due to my ignoring a potential problem. I have all drivers, virus defs, and software updated regularly. The only thing I do not have updated is my MB Bios because it's a Gateway PC and getting them to update a product detail like that once it ships seems to be like wishing for pigs to fly.
Any info and or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Jeff.
