Hello
I have a Emachines t3104, and I have been trying to install my ATI Radeon 9550 card, and I can get it installed, install all the latestest drivers, and when I go to play my sims 2, actually any game for that matter, a vpu recover errors comes up. I've had a computer programmer over here trying to figure it out, and even he can't, and I don't know what to do. It works on my sisters finaces computer, but not this one. I also tried to install a Navidia Gforce 4 card, and it wouldnt even let me get past the bios system. Is it a problem with my motherboard? I don't knwo what to do please HELP me.Also, when i boot the game up, sometimes after that stupid error comes up, my monitor shuts off and it says "No cable signal" or something along those lines, please someone help!
My Ram is 768mb

1st, download these ATI drivers:
http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206...
2nd, completely uninstall the drivers for the onboard graphics
3rd, accesss the BIOS, disable the onboard & return the "shared RAM" back to the system
4th, install the new card & boot up
5th, install the drivers you downloaded in step #1

Apparently that driver link doesn't work. Go to the following site & select XP Pro/Home in the 1st box, Radeon in the 2nd box, & Radeon 9550 Series in the last box, then click GO. Download Option 2:

I've done all that. They think they problem is something to do with my Bios, because my bios won't let me disable my onboard video, there are no options for it, and we can't find a flash for my bios.
Help?
Any other suggestions

Not all boards have an "enable/disable" setting for the onboard video. Look for a setting that has to do with "shared memory", or possibly "initial display" with choices of onboard, PCI, or AGP. Another possibility is that the BIOS automatically disables the onboard video when an AGP or PCI card is detected.

Your board is an OEM version of the FIC K8M-800M. Does this look familiar?

I honestly have no clue what I am looking for, My sister's fiance was over doing it all, and i got all the terms from him, he's the smart one lol. He was over here again for 5 or so hours trying to get it to work, and it looks like I am going to have to take it into a professsional place, and pay more money. Isn't it stupid, I've payed mroe then 1200, just to play the sims 2, and i have to take it in, which is going to cost more! This is getting nerve wracking!
and yes, i've been to that stie, and we followed all those steps, and it still doesnt work.

things to try :
1. right-click on "my computer", select "properties". follow by "hardware", "device manager". click on the "+"sign next to "display adapters", if the on-board vga exist, select and right-click. then, select "disable".
try running the game.
2. uninstall ati's driver, then go this site:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/downloa...
to download this driver cleaner untility and run it for both ati and nvidia's driver(you mentioned that you did tried to install nvidia card) to clean out unwanted debris.
next, download/install ati driver version 6.3
try running the game.
3. go to your pc's motherboard manufacturer site, download and install its latest driver.
hope these help.

Thats the problem, there is no updates for my motherboard, and the one we did find, we need a floppy drive for, and guess what, this s---ty computer doesn't even have one! So, i guess it's just going to come downt o me having to spend more money to get this thing working, and fixed professionally.

I had the same problem with a 9550, have you turned fastwrites off in the bios? Its possible to disable them through the drivers too I think.
