i fitted this ati 9800 pro two days ago and it was working fine playing all my games.
then i tryed opening a game all the graphics was streaky, broken up,then freeze, blue screen etc.
i took the side of the PC to see that the gc fan had stopped. before i fitted the card i put a arctic cooler silencer on to improve the cooling, so it was that fan that had stopped.
i then took the cooler of to check the fan by sending power directly to it,started spinning.
i then checked the standard fan which i replaced the same way, spinning.
so nether fan will work when fitted to the gc, but will of the board with direct power.
so I'm guessing that the power control from the gc to the fan is faulty?
at the moment i have the side of with a 12" house fan blowing in and its running normally.
i was wondering what may have caused the problem, and why didn't my temp monitor pick up the extreme temp from the gc as when i took the cooler of it was a horrendous temp, any thoughts??

I'd RMA the card. The 9xxx series cards dont have temp sensors.Only the X series do.
BTW,which arctic cooler do you have?the rev1 or 2.?
I bought the rev 2 and it would not seat fully..Had to super glue the b---tard on the GPU frame...

Hi Martin,
Its actually the Arctic Silencer 1(Rev.2).
Yeah, there are 2 small screws which are to be attached on the mounting unit,The cooler did not make firm contact with the graphics card-it would tilt and could not be mounted in a uniform stable fashion. The screws were pointless. So I had to resort to using 2 different types of crazy glue to bond the damn thing on the metal perimeter surrounding the GPU.
I put a fair amount of weight on it and let it dry overnight.
The cooler works great and also runs silent. But i doubt Ill ever be able to take it off with out taking something else off with it.Oh well.
