I was wandering if the ATI 9700 pro is a good enough
card to play Call Of Duty,Farcry. I am building a newer
system and i am on a budget (dang kids). lol, gotta love
them.

I am ordering:
ASUS K8V SE Delux mobo
AMD 64 3000+ CPU
1Gig Kingston 3200 400 FSB
Raidmax Scorpion 420 watt PS

Will this run COD,Farcry? With a 9700 video card

Plenty of card to run Call of Duty and Farcry.

Nice system, but watch the RAIDmax case for a crappy power supply. Check the 12V rail and make sure it's got 18A on it.

A better question is how much are you paying for that video card? Let's make sure it's a good deal!

Clawhammer? Thank you everyone for the info, It takes
alot of time to read and find the right products for a new
computer. All info helps. i really just want to play COD i
like that game!!!! Also is the 9800 pro that much better
than the 9700 pro? If not i will go with the 9700.

What's the deal with expensive cases anyway?
I bought one of these:

http://www.super-flower.com.tw/english/sf-702t1-bk.htm

from here:

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=1200441947&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=56708

for a mere £16.44 without a PSU

I can't stand those Thermaltake Xaser cases because they look like some kind of 20 year-old prop from star trek and still cost £82.24 without a PSU??

Nothing cooling-wise on a cheap case that a bit of TLC with a few power tools and a couple of aftermarket fans can't fix.

RAIDMax is hit or miss. I've had friends that bought them and they worked great, and friends that the power supply died in a month, and some that just wouldn't run athlons.

The amps on the 12V rails seem to be related, not necessarily because it needs that, but they seem to be more reliable in general. That's why I didn't necessarily mean to buy a different brand case.

9700 Pros are SLIGHTLY faster than 9800 non pros. There is a wider gap though between the 9700 Pro and the 9800 Pro obviously in the 9800's favor.

If you shop right, the 9800 pros can add a bit more value in that many today seem to overclock well beyond 9800 Pro or even XT speeds. Something to consider.

You can get a 9800 Pro for around $195.

Check out the game bundle on that one...might be worth it to you for that alone...

Snoopy, think about all the time you spend to do that stuff, the extra money you spend as well to get the fans, etc. needed to mod, and those other high end cases begin to be a bit more attractive. Not saying you're wrong, but some people don't care to do that kind of thing.

Thank you for the responses, Hey Heropsycho I would just
put a PS in the tower if it fails, I was really looking for a
decent looking tower, and i think the Raidmax looks ok.
Im not sure how much money i will have for a video card,
so therefore i will have to use my old one for COD. Its not
that good of a card but i think it will play COD. 5200
ultra, does anyone know if it will play COD till i get a new
card? Thank you much Heropsycho for the info on the
9700, and yes the tower does have a 12v in it.

It HAS to have a 12V rail!

What's the amps on it though?!

You can get a good looking case and a decent power supply in it. Check out the Aspire cases on newegg.com. Much better luck with the power supplies in there, because the amps are usually 18 on the 12V.

If you need to save money, consider a 9600 Pro, XT, or 9800 SE.

If you're the gambling type, newegg sells a powercolor 9800SE that supposedly softmods rather easily to a 9800 Pro for $119. Even if it doesn't work, it will kick the crap out of a 5200 Ultra.

This 9800 Pro can be yours for just $163.00, it does not get any better as always with Newegg!!!.

Well the card is gone now, those deals do no stay very long on Neweggs refurb section, if you are lucky you might be able to catch another one @ a later time.

hero:

Personally with Newegg, the risk is minimal because it is calculated, can't say that for some other retailers though. There are several unscrupulous retailers that repackage and sell returned hardware as new and more often get away with it because the buyer never finds out so long as the components worked great.

With Newegg it is an open secret the best deals on graphic cards are from the refurb section, but they do have a big disclaimer.

Newegg.com does not test any product, including refurbished items. Refurbished components are therefore only tested by the original manufacturer. Due to the varying quality of manufacturer testing, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING REFURBISHED PRODUCTS. Refurbished items are OPEN BOX products that contain components that have previously been owned by other clients and returned to Newegg.com. These products are sold considerably under cost.

I have looked at that, and the only thing that scares me is
states the item was returned. Was it returned because of
something wrong with it or maybe they just upgraded
their video card. I would like a 9800 pro, I was a geforce
man but got lost in the times of the new cards. Is geforce
still any good? what geforce would be comparible to the
9800 pro. Also i heard bad things about 9800 pro 128
bit, is there something wrong with some 9800? there is
alot of different 9800. Sorry for all the ?
