There are both great cards, but they are different to for different features. The ATI cards seem to run better cell shading, but have lower fps. The Geforce card runs a higher fps but lacks some of the cell shading. I play alot of first person shooters, and I use a Geforce 5600 ultra. I have no problem playing any game at the highest resolution. With open GL games I would tend to go with the Geforce. I am not baised I would have got an Ati if I was doing more adventurous slower pace games.

Go with the 9600XT. While nVidia's are often better for pure speed while giving a little on picture quality, the extra 128 MB or ram on the 9600XT should minimize if not eliminate and speed difference.

I stick with the fx5700 ultra, it has better performance than the 9600xt. both are good choices though, the 9600xt has noticeable differences in image quality gaming(anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering)but the fx5700 has more fps plus it beats 9600xt in most reviews.

Im a NVIDIA fan and have a fx 5200 ultra but in this case i would go for the 9600 xt as even though its slower it gives better performance and a diff in 10 fps wont hurt

Ok quick thought! The argument is which is better the 9600xt (good candidate for overclokers by the way) or the fx5700. However, the 9700pro is about to be discontinued which is why it is now selling at just over the £200 mark. Is this card not better than the 2 mentioned???? I heard that the 9800pro is not that much better than the 9700pro, which is still a solid top end card.

9600xt but only because of the *256ddr*. I would prefer fx5700u if u were going to get a 9600xt 128ddr.

The 9700 pro is the way to go, overall it's only 16%slower than a 9800 pro, it also manages to beat the FX 5800 which was released around half a year later. I've got a 9600 pro but I know the 9700 would easily beat it, if your cash-strapped try finding a 9500 pro there a great card and cheap because there a discontinued model but very hard to find, the 9500 pro has 8 pixel pipelines instead of the 4 on the 9600 and FX 5700.
